We have some big news!

Updated: Aug 30, 2021

We briefly went over the announcement in the introduction to our blog, but we wanted to provide a little more information here, in our first blog.

As most of you may or may not know, Shannon has a genetic condition called Turner's syndrome. What it boils down this that while it may be possible to have biological children, we were told recently that if we conceived, the pregnancy would be extremely high-risk. The possible risks were not something we were willing to undertake. Especially when it could be a risk to Shannon's life.

This news was not entirely unexpected, and early on in the relationship we had discussed this as a possibility. Even though we knew this was a possibility, it still took a little while to process the news. We talked about it, and ultimately thought that we still had lots of love, support, and guidance to give to a child, and wanted to be parents. We then decided that the best and safest way to become parents would be to adopt.

The decision to adopt was made in July, and we've had a lot of decisions to make with not a lot of knowledge at that time. Since then, we have been talking to lots of people and doing TONS of research / reading, and we have come to some decisions.

We decided that a domestic Infant adoption would be the best situation for us, and after researching and talking to agencies that specialized in that type of adoption, we decided that Angel Adoptions would best be able to provide what we are looking for in our adoption process.

We signed with Angel Adoptions on August 25th, 2021, and are now starting to work on our family profile with Angel Adoptions. While this is happening, we are also going through an intense HomeStudy process with Lutheran Child and Family Services. The Home Study is the first step to become licensed parents, and start the adoption process, and will take about 2-3 months to complete. This process takes time, can be a roller coaster with a lot of hurry-up and wait. We thank you, our friends and family, for going on this journey with us and supporting us.

We will be updating this blog as things happen to keep everyone apprised, and so we can also keep a record of this journey that our little one may be able to look back on and see how much they were loved and wanted.

A big saying in adoption is that love makes a family, not only biology. We just want to say we love you all, and thank you for being our family!
